These trusses have to be designed according to engineering specifications and generally have a bigger depth and smaller bay lengths than pre-fabricated trusses.

 

It is also difficult to ensure the uniformity of the trusses as they are usually not manufactured in a controlled environment.

 

An engineer will have to scrutinise the design and this will add substantial extra costs.
