Every roof is measured, designed and purpose made to fit the building exactly according to customer requirements and specifications. + Why do I have to use Pre-fabricated Roof Trusses in stead of site made Trusses? -Pre-fabricated roof trusses are designed to meet all the required specifications. -Pre-fabricated roof trusses are built in one plane and smaller forces are thus implemented on the joints. Smaller timber sizes can thus be utilised and this gives a more ecenomical structure. -Pre-fabricated roof trusses are manufactured in a controlled environment, thus giving a better quality product. -With Pre-fabricated roof trusses, the erection process is much quicker as the product is lighter and easier to handle. This also saves erection costs. + What is the life span of a pre-fabricated timber roof truss? Pre-fabricated roof trusses are manufacturerd to outlast the lifetime of the building. You have to keep in mind that internal parts of a roof truss are not exposed to the elements but the overhangs are. Maintenance is thus needed from time to time on the exposed parts of the trusses to prevent rot.(eg. overhanges and gable-ends).
+ Does a roof need maintenance? Maintenance on a standard roof is usually only needed on the exposed sections of the roof. This is done by painting the exposed parts with a presevative.(eg Carbolimeum) We also have to keep in mind that after the installation of a roof, services like satelite dishes, gutters, geysers,etc. are installed and parts of the roof may be damaged. This is usually left damaged and will influence the performance of the roof. The owner also has to inspect and clean the valleys and gutters yearly, depending on the location of the building. + How many roof trusses do I need for a 20 metre long building? Standard trusses for tiled roofs are spaced at a maximum of 760mm c/c. Standard trusses for sheeted roofs are spaced at a maximum of 1200mm c/c. The first truss is placed 50mm to the inside of the wall. Thus: by deducting the thickness of the outer walls and the 50mm on each side of the inside of the wall from the total length of the building, the truss spacings can be determined by dividing the answer by the maximum spacings allowed for the specified roof.
